Istanbul Welcomes You
Istanbul Welcomes You is a project aiming to create a hexagonal box for Istanbul’s foreign visitors. The box will be filled with a Turkish dessert called “lokum” and will be given as a gift to the visitors for their time in Istanbul. The packaging and the zine that comes with it will aim to introduce the historical monuments present in modern day Istanbul, and guide the visitors on where to find each one of them.
I would like to note that I was heavily inspired by Geray Gencer's take on Istanbul's monuments and their illustrative forms.

I first gathered images about Istanbul's most popular historical monuments, I chose a total of 17 monuments.

After studying the monuments, I drew sketches of them and aligned them with each other to form the letters of "Istanbul" when formed. Then I converted my sketches into vector illustration forms.

I installed the vector forms onto the box cover designs, and designed a map that is pointing the locations of the monuments. For the box cover designs, I kept it simple and relied on three colors mostly.

In order to fill up the remaining space of the box's interior and exterior sides, I created a pattern that is resembling a similarity to Istanbul's authentic history. I made the pattern relatively similar to what an Islamic motif would look like, so that it could naturally represent the past Ottoman culture that Istanbul hosted for a significant period in time.

After finishing the secondary elements, I proceeded to put them on top of the template for the box.

I decided to also create a zine that can be found inside the packaging. Therefore I designed a zine that shortly describes the monuments that I picked for the project. When unfolded, it also shows themonuments' illustrations forming the title "Istanbul" all together.

I wanted to print and fold my design to get a feel of what could be the outcome of the project. Here is my photoshoot for "Istanbul Welcomes You" dessert box:
